Romeo is a one-year-old German Shepherd that is causing his owner problems. This is why his owner decided that he get a dog trainer for his precious pet.
The dog was welcomed by Tom Davis, a canine trainer, to his facility for behavioral training. He demonstrated how to rewire the dog’s tendencies which he did for 19 minutes.
Romeo was quite reactive and noisy when he first came in. He’d bark at the cameraman and any other dog that moved in the vicinity. But Tom made sure that he showed that was in command of the situation.
For simpler maneuverability and correction, Tom used a shorter prong collar. Every time Romeo attempts to be reactive, Tom has a countermove ready. These seemed to work because despite the fact that the dog has only met Tom that day, he was already following most of his commands.
The next step in the training was to introduce another dog. Tom must stop Romeo from pursuing the other dog. A black dog named Lakota was brought out for this test.
Tom proceeded to describe what he does when Romeo is in his care. Lakota was asked to sit motionless by the trainer. At the same time, he was able to order Romeo to remain in his current location.
Romeo had been struggling with his hostility for a long time, but it only took Tom a few minutes to take the initial steps in the right direction.
Romeo isn’t perfect at obeying directions, but the trainer believed that the behavioral adjustment is more important at that time.
Tom can always practice his commands at a later time. He must be constant in issuing corrections and recognizing triggers in the immediate circumstance. While there were other dogs in the room, Romeo was able to pace back and forth.
Without Romeo’s reaction, Tom was free to move Lakota closer to him. Tom was able to relax Romeo with a combination of good body language, vocal tone, and perfect timing. The owner, without a doubt, was quite pleased with the improvement.
