Imagine doing your job for 56 years. That was how long Boomer, a K9 officer, worked at Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma. Well, it was 56 dog years.
It was 2011 when K9 Officer Boomer was first recruited for the job. At that time, Boomer had just finished his narcotics detection training. During his tenure, the black lab earned a considerably long list of accomplishments. Now, Boomer is retiring after many years of protecting the national parks.
Boomer has been instrumental in detecting prohibited drugs not only at his home park but also in his local community. The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and many other parks had also benefitted from Boomer’s valuable services.
As a dedicated canine officer, Boomer also earned several certifications under his belt. That includes those from the State of Oklahoma, the American Police Canine Association, the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association, and many others.
Although he mainly worked at the national parks, Boomer was also always willing to lend a paw to those who need him. He used his talents to help out at the local schools as well as the community groups. When duty called, Boomer also provided significant assistance to the local law enforcement agencies and the post office.
During his last few weeks in the service, Boomer diligently oversaw his successor to ensure a smooth transition. At that time, K9 Officer Rex, Boomer’s successor, was learning the ropes.
Now, Boomer is enjoying his retirement at home. He spends plenty of time with his loving family and is always ready for them to give him some belly rubs and treats. After all those years of hard work, Boomer deserves every single pet and treat that he could get. Boomer is not only a good boy but also an excellent law enforcement officer.
