Angela Marie, the brain and heart behind the nonprofit animal rescue organization Angela’s Ark, wasted no second when she learned that a dog named Griff needed her help. She quickly assembled her crew and headed to the animal shelter where the dog was. Within an hour, she and her team managed to pull him out of there.
Griff, together with 20 other dogs, was rescued from a hoarding situation. He was sick, hairless, and completely shut down. He was locked up in a cage his entire life and he felt so scared when his surrounding suddenly changed.
From the shelter, Griff went straight home with his rescuer and foster mom Angela. He didn’t like her and he didn’t want to have anything to do with her at all. No matter how much she tried to befriend him, he shut her down.
The first few days after the dog’s rescue was pretty stressful, Angela admitted. She was more than willing and able to take care of Griff but he refused to accept any help. He ignored her but she kept her cool and waited until he decompressed.
The dog needed specialty care and his foster mom made sure that’s what he got. Slowly, he felt better, and that’s when he started to explore his foster home. He checked every room in the house and claimed a basket he found in the living room as his safe spot.
One by one, Griff made huge accomplishments. He braved his way out of his kennel, ate right from his foster mom’s hand, learned to use the stairs, and eventually enjoyed going on walks. He also found joy laying on the grass while he soaked in the warmth of the sun.
Griff’s emotional wounds mended as his physical state improved. He learned to trust Angela and ended up liking her so much. She gave him a shot at a better life, he figured, and he couldn’t thank her enough for what she did.
The dog is yet to fully recover but he’s on his way. The great news is that he is now with his new loving family. Griff is home.
