Hope for Paws is an L.A.-based nonprofit rescue group that has no reservations when it comes to rescuing animals. They would go to extreme lengths just so they could save creatures that are in need. So when they received a report about a small abandoned dog in a desert town near San Diego, they didn’t mind driving more than a hundred miles from their base in Los Angeles.
According to the caller, the dog has been running around their neighborhood for almost a week. No one was able to catch her because she was scared of humans, especially of males. The very next day, two of the group’s seasoned rescuers, Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frankonyte, made the long drive.
A little trick
When the dedicated rescuers finally arrived at the quaint neighborhood, they found the small black dog sitting by a driveway. Apparently, the family living there has been leaving the dog some food. So she mostly stayed there, leaving only if she felt that there was any threat.
As they already knew that the furry pup was scared of men. Eldad asked Loreta to approach the homeless pooch by herself. Fortunately, their tactic worked. The dog didn’t run away. But still, the little dog was cautious.
Although she allowed Loretta to get near, she refused to let her place a leash on her head. So they did a little trick. The rescuer brought a burger out and distracted her. While the dog stared at the tasty treat in front of her, the rescuer quickly slipped the leash on her neck.
A new home
The dog, who was named Sheena later on, was startled, but quickly relaxed. They got her back to their vehicle and made the long journey to their shelter. There she was given a good bath and some medical care.
Sheena lived in a foster home for several weeks. She learned how to trust humans again. Before long, she was adopted by a senior man. The former stray is now very happy and well-loved.
