One couple got into an accident with their two dogs in South Central Idaho. They were in a pick-up truck and because of the strong winds, the driver lost control and they literally dangled from the cliff.
The first responders saw that the only safety chains tied to a camper above the bridge were keeping the pick-up from falling 100 feet into the canyon. The Idaho police then sprang into action after seeing the situation.
Together with the special operations team, a trooper, and a sheriff’s deputy, they all rope down from a chopper to save the couple and their dogs. Using safety ropes, they rappeled to reach the truck.
After an hour and some minutes, they finally took out the couple and their dogs into safety. According to the Magic Valley Paramedics, it was a miracle that the chain held them up that long.
Field supervisor of the paramedics’ team, Chad Smith, and Gerald Tillman were both happy that their actions saved the couple and their dogs.
The team was also proud that they were very swift. Their amazing teamwork was the result of the intense training and education that they received.
The couple, who was 67 and 64 years old respectively, were both from Garden City. They were beyond thankful that they were saved together with their beloved pets.
In an interview, Steve said that the wind was super strong during that time. It was about 30-35 miles per hour.
Nikki took a picture of their view, and it was a horrible sight. She thought that that was where they will end up, just like the things in their truck.
They will be forever grateful to the rescue team, especially because they saved the couple’s pets. Their dogs are very important for them as the couple treats them like their own children.
