A Good Samaritan who lived in a neighborhood in L.A. spotted a very pregnant homeless pitbull and immediately knew she needed to seek help. And so, she took a photo of the dog and sent it to the local animal welfare and rescue group called Hope For Paws. Quickly, two of the volunteers, Katie and JoAnn, headed out to rescue the pup, which was later on named Waffles.
On-site, Katie and JoAnn quickly saw Waffles. They didn’t have to look for her. In fact, the very second the pup saw them, she ran toward them and said hi. She was so happy to see them as if she knew they were there to help her.
Gaining the dog’s trust wasn’t necessary but rescuers still offered her some food. After all, they bought the yummy cheeseburger for her so it’s only right to give it to her.
Moments later, the rescuers decided it was time to go. Katie looped a leash on the dog’s neck but JoAnn determined it was better to carry Waffles than to let her walk to the car. And so, she carried the expecting momma and loaded her at the back of the Hope For Paws rescue vehicle.
At the clinic, the vets estimated Waffles was over 51 days pregnant and that she would give birth within the next few days. They also said she had about 6 or 7 puppies inside her belly. They offered to keep her until she gives birth but JoAnn decided to take her home instead.
Within a few hours, Waffles went into labor and gave birth to her first puppy, Pancake. Minutes later, she welcomed her second ad third baby, Sausage and Beignet. She felt exhausted that she needed to rest for a short while. But later on, Doughnut, Hashbrown, and Croissant came out, one after the other.
Waffles was so happy that she didn’t have to give birth on the streets. She was so thankful that her babies need not experience how to be homeless. But among all things, she was so grateful that they all got better chances at life.
With the help of Angel City Pit Bulls Rescue, Waffles and her babies found their happy endings. They bid their goodbyes to their rescue friends and joined their new loving families.
