Since 2013, Ric Browde, CEO of the non-profit organization Wings of Rescue, has been flying animals in distress. Wings of Rescue is a charitable organization that flies at-risk animals from overcrowded shelters and disaster zones to shelters with more available space or to places where they can find their forever homes.
Since its inception, the company has flown over 40,000 pets to safety throughout the United States and Canada. In reality, it is the only dog charity organization that flies and operates for the benefit of these many dogs. Wings of Rescue can transport a maximum number of about 100 pets on a single flight alone.
They were able to transport a whopping 8, 142 dogs from overcrowded shelters and crisis zones on 105 flights in the first ten months of 2020. All that while being grounded for months due to COVID-19. They clearly run a well-oiled machine.
Wings of Rescue CEO Rick Browde laughed as he claimed that, despite the high cost of the flight, their passenger satisfaction rate is higher than that of any other commercial airline. Furthermore, their passengers are friendlier, more adorable, and more often than not, more well-behaved well than humans.
Browde went on to say that whenever they reach 3,000 meters above sea level, all the dogs fall asleep as if someone has just cast a spell. And as they begin to descend, it’s as if they have a plane full of toddlers wondering, “Are we there yet?” For some reason, the dogs all seem to wake up at the same time.
Wings of Rescue is a donor-based charity that depends on the generosity of strangers. When people ask Browde why he does this, he says he is amazed. He claims that everyone is capable of doing good deeds and that if everyone did so, the world will be a better place.
