Firework blasts from the next-door neighbor scared the life out of two-year-old Labrador and Catahoula Leopard Dog mix named Rajah. The poor pup was so terrified, she ran away from her home in Greenville, South Carolina. Exactly eight hours since she has gone missing, she returned home and rang the doorbell to wake her family up at three in the morning!
According to Rajah’s owner Mary Lynn Whitacre, their sweet dog was playing with the other family dogs in their backyard when afternoon July 4th firecrackers agitated her. Because of fear, Rajah escaped through the fence and ran off. Her family tried to come after her, but she was too quick.
Rajah’s family is relatively new to the neighborhood, which is why Mary Lynn and her husband Rick, were worried sick that their dog has lost her way. The couple knew that Rajah was not familiar with the streets of their neighborhood. Plus, the growing number of blasting fireworks that day also made it impossible for them to call out her name. Mary Lynn and Rick drove around to look for her, but they failed to locate Rajah.
It has been more than seven hours, and the family decided to turn to social media for help, hoping somebody spotted the scared dog in their streets. They also took a break from their search and returned home, saddened and worried that they haven’t found Rajah. Before calling it a night, they placed a shirt outside their porch, hoping their smell would attract Rajah home.
Then the unexpected happened – Rick, who could not fall asleep, heard some noises out in the yard. He heard some scratches, followed by the doorbell. When he took a peek at their front door CCTV, he saw that it was Rajah! Rick initially thought somebody brought their pet home. But upon reviewing the footage again, he found out that Rajah herself rang the doorbell.
The family wondered where Rajah went for the last seven hours, but they knew she went on a little adventure. The playful dog returned home covered in dirt, thorns, and mud. Luckily, she was able to return home and her family is just thankful that the day ended on a positive note. Not all families are lucky to have their pets back after running off! They are just glad Rajah is a smart dog who was able to find her way home!
