A stray dog from Tanjung Bungah in Malaysia fell into a 100-foot ravine and couldn’t find a way out. Rain fell hard and it made the surrounding rocks very slippery. Every time he tried to climb up, he would just fall down back again. As nobody owns him, there would be no one to look for the trapped dog.
It seems that his fate was not going to be good.
Luckily though, several residents of that suburb noticed him. And instead of just ignoring his plight, they called the local fire station for help.
A series of pulleys
After they received the call, the Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue Department assembled a rescue team and sent them off right away. 10 responders comprised the team, and they immediately assessed the situation. They decided that the best and safest way to extract the dog is by using a pulley system.
They got their equipment and assembled it. They had to make sure that it was steady and well-built. One wrong step and they could slip and fall. Slowly, two firefighters bravely descended and grabbed the dog, They put the homeless animal in a harness, and the rest pulled them out.
The rescue operation took almost three hours to complete. The responders had to make sure that everything was safe.
Hailed as heroes
Pictures of the daring rescue were shared online and a lot of people commended the firefighters for their heroic act. Some said that it was very good that the rescuers went all out to save the dog, even if he was just a stray. And even though they are regarded as animals, they have lives too.
Malaysian residents hailed the rescue team because they showed their humanity, and they said that they are proud of them. Their efforts showed they are dedicated to their jobs, whether it’s humans or animals that need them.
