Anastasia Pagonis’s vision deteriorated due to a genetic and autoimmune disease that showed up when she was young. She eventually completely lost her eyesight in 2018, which took a toll on her overall well-being.
Anastasia recalled that her family surprised her with a guide dog named Radar in hopes of helping her regain her independence. She admitted how shocked she was when she first met Radar because she could not believe that he would be her companion 24/7.
Anastasia recalled that it took her two weeks to learn how to work with Radar. Fortunately, all the hard work eventually paid off because Radar helped her regain her independence after losing them for over two years.
Anastasia shared that Radar does everything for her, including finding elevators, find a new path to go to if anything is obstructing her way, and even looking for specific fruits at the grocery store. She proudly said that her self-confidence and independence came back, and it was all thanks to Radar’s constant guidance.
Anastasia wanted to join a new sport because she could not play football anymore, so she tried out swimming classes for a change. Radar patiently waited for her to finish by the pool deck every day, and she eventually got better enough to join the Paralympics team.
Radar traveled through the airport together with Anastasia, and she gushed at how smart Radar was. Radar was relaxed throughout the journey and was not fazed by anything at all.
Radar was so brilliant that he memorized the whole Olympic training center in one day. She admitted not knowing how her life would be if she did not have Radar by her side because he was the one who helped her persevere in joining the Paralympics team.
Anastasia gushed at how Radar has changed her life for the better. She shared how thankful she was that Radar became her eyes and that he gave her back the one thing that she has always prided herself in â her independence.
