Joe Tasby is a blind senior veteran who was taken to Southern Hills Hospital in Las Vegas. He was admitted because he suffered from heart arrhythmia and lung disease.
Like many veterans, Joe has a service dog, Cupid, that never left his side. His daughter would come to visit them every day, and she would take care of the dog’s needs.
Cupid is very important to Joe. The dog provides him not just comfort but also does numerous other helpful tasks. Thankfully, he went to a hospital that allowed service dogs to stay with their owners.
Everything was going well until the health facility had to go under lockdown.
Outstanding woman
When Joe heard that no more visitors would be allowed, he started to panic. No one was going to take care of Cupid. Thankfully, a very kind and generous nurse worked in that particular hospital. Most of the staff were very hardworking and friendly, but Barbara Borbeck went way above and beyond her duty to help the veteran.
The nurse understood that Joe needed his dog, so she stepped up and took care of both of them.
Fresh air and sunshine
Ever since the lockdown, Barbara would come in earlier than her usual schedule and would spend the extra time to take Cupid out for a walk. She took her around the hospital, visiting the other departments, and they would go outside so the dog could get some fresh air and sunshine. This didn’t just help the dog get exercise, but the daily visits made the other staff members happy.
Barbara also made sure that the dog had food and treats. She even went the extra mile by going to several stores just to find the special dog food that Cupid ate. Everything the pooch needed, the nurse took care of it.
When Joe was finally released from the hospital, he knew that were was no way he could express how thankful he was for what the amazing woman had done for him. Without Barbara, his dog would have been taken away from him.
