Fergie is a small dog that wandered into a residential property located on top of a mountain in California. The homeowner saw her sitting on her deck, and when she tried to come close, the small pup ran away and disappeared into the vast wilderness behind her house.
The next day, the stray Shih Tzu was back again.
It looked like the dog was living in the wild and was searching for food in the nearby community. There was no telling how long she had been staying in the mountains, but it looked like she had a very difficult time. Her hair was severely matted, and she seemed famished.
Getting help
Afraid to scare her off again, the homeowner decided to get professional help. She called an animal rescue organization and told them about the situation. The next day, an experienced rescuer arrived at the location.
As the deck was fenced, the first thing that the rescuer did was to secure all exit points. He placed a collapsible fence and slowly went in. As it turned out, the dog had no plans to escape. She merely stayed in one place, looking at the rescuer who was gently approaching her.
Gaining friends
The rescuer gave her some food, and the small pooch willingly ate from the kind man’s hand. She didn’t even mind when he started slipping a leash over her head. Maybe she could sense that the man was there to help her. Soon, the rescuer was carrying the pup in his arms, and they got inside his vehicle. He then named her Fergie.
The rescuer marveled at the dog’s ability to survive. The mountains had some deadly predators like bears, coyotes, and more. She could have easily been turned into a meal for them. But the universe had other plans for her.
Fergie was cleaned up, groomed, then brought to a foster home. There she started becoming playful and more affectionate. She is starting to enjoy life again and is waiting for her forever home.
