Donna, the head rescuer of the nonprofit animal rescue organization Stray Rescue of St. Louis, headed the moment she heard the news that a homeless Pittie had recently given birth to 8 puppies. She gathered as much information as she needed and found out that the furry family was in the middle of the woods. But when she located the dogs, she only met the momma and not the puppies.
Crown Candy, the momma dog, had enlarged breasts so there was no doubt that she was nursing at that time. The thing was, her puppies were nowhere to be found. She hid them somewhere and Donna needed to do extra work to locate them.
The rescuer took her time in gaining the mom’s trust. She knew that the dog could act aggressively if she acted carelessly. So, she gave the Pittie some tasty treats and waited until it was ready to lead the way to its puppies.
In no time, Crown Candy stood up and walked right into a burrow that was in a perfect hidden spot, where she hid her litter. She was worried about them and she hesitated to let the rescuer come too close. But eventually, she decided to let Donna take them.
Crown Candy and her puppies spent about three days or so at the rescue center before heading to their foster home. Their foster mom, Stacy, was so thrilled to meet them. They were all adorable, after all, so it’s no wonder that she was smitten with them right off the bat.
The momma dog is very affectionate with her puppies and she does a magnificent job caring for them. With Stacy beside her, she’s able to provide the life her puppies deserve.
The puppies are more mobile now and their mom has started to teach them to be more independent. She leads them out of the room and lets them explore their surrounding, but she never takes her eyes off them. She’s still their mom and she will protect them at all costs.
The furry family will spend a few more weeks with Stacy until they are all ready for their new homes. Until then, they are certain to never be on the streets again.
