Bandit the dog had been with the Gwinnett Jail Dogs Program since 2014, seeking a loving home. Selected inmates may participate in this program, which encourages them to foster and train shelter dogs.
Bandit made friends with a lot of people in the program, but he had a tough time finding a home due to his specific requirements. He’d been adopted three times, and each time he’d been returned because he was too much work.
Bandit was paralyzed after a heartworm procedure when he was new to the program. The company had to purchase a special wheelchair since he couldn’t lift his back legs.
With his wheelchair, he can run and play like any other dog. However, he has particular needs that many families are unable to provide.
Bandit’s previous families all adored him, but they all felt unable to provide proper care. Bandit, on the other hand, was able to find a home that accepted his disability. Furthermore, they had a better understanding of his needs than anyone else.
When Bandit met Darrell and Sue Rider, he became the luckiest dog in the world. When the couple first learned about Bandit, they considered adopting him, but they wanted to be sure they could handle the responsibilities.
Darrell and Bandit had a special bond since they had a common interest. Darrell, like Bandit, has been paralyzed from the waist down since birth. As a result, he must continue to rely on a wheelchair to go around.
Darrell’s home is already handicap accessible, so the couple decided it would be an excellent location for Bandit. They chose to greet Bandit and show him that he was not alone.
His departure saddens everyone who met Bandit through the Gwinnett Jail Dogs Program. They do, however, acknowledge that the ending is bittersweet. As heartbreaking as it is to see him go, it’s incredible that he met such a wonderful family.
