Two weeks after the birth of Goldendoodle Benjamin Bunny, his breeder observed something unusual. The dog had problems putting weight on his hind legs, making it challenging for him to walk and suckle from his mum. Because of this, the breeder chose to turn him over to Bosley’s Place, a Smyrna, Georgia-based animal rescue organization.
The staff kindly took him in, and shortly after, they sent him to a vet to get checked. They discovered Benjamin Bunny had a significant spinal abnormality at that time. The disease afflicted a piece of his back down to the entire bottom half of his body, but happily, he wasn’t experiencing any form of pain.
After learning about his illness, the team nursed him back to health by bottle-feeding him frequently and monitoring him around the clock. When Benjamin was strong enough, they then sent him to live with his foster fur mom, Beth Williams.
As soon as she brought her Goldendoodle home, Beth immediately began treatment with him. After weeks of little improvement in his mobility, she feared he would never walk normally again. However, the foster pet mother didn’t want to leave Benjamin like that since she wanted to offer him some independence.
Fortunately, she discovered Walkin’ Pets, a firm that supplies mobility aids for disabled animals. They were able to design a custom wheelchair for Benjamin that was adaptable enough to match his growing body. Almost immediately after putting the wheelchair on, the pooch decided to take it for a little test run.
It is reasonable to say that he immediately fell in love with his new gear and spent hours playing with his foster fur siblings. Although Benjamin may never regain power in his hind legs, Beth and the workers at the shelter were pleased to see him walking and running on his own.
