Most of the time, people will not pay attention to one dog. However, there are also lots of people out there who are willing to risk their lives to save one dog, no matter what it takes.
In Houston, Texas, a three-year-old stray dog fell in an open sanitary sewer. The sewer was 20 feet deep. Thankfully, the dog didn’t suffer any major injuries, but surely, he was scared because it was dark and cold below.
Thankfully, the Department of Public Works and Engineering of Houston had a current construction near the sewer. They immediately took action to rescue the poor dog.
The dog was later named Julian. He was also called “Sewer Sam” by his rescuers. Despite being scared because he was surrounded by strangers, Julian remained calm and friendly towards his rescuers. He didn’t snap at his rescuers. As soon as he was right out of the sewer, the rescuers wrapped him in a blanket and gave him warm hugs.
Julian was brought to BARC Animal Shelter for assessment and possible rehoming if no one would claim him during the holding period. BARC Animal Shelter is Houston’s facility for animal rescue and adoption. It is the only shelter around the Houston area that accepts all dogs regardless of their breed, temperament, health, and circumstances.
Julian’s rescue story isn’t over yet. Later, the Public Works and Engineering Department of Houston has decided to adopt him to become their new mascot! The announcement is made on BARC’s Facebook page.
People in Houston were happy for Julian. They also commended the effort of the workers to save one dog from a sewer. Moreover, the people were amazed that the government had decided to adopt him for good and to provide him shelter.
Thank you, BARC and Houston Public Works and Engineering Department, for giving Julian a permanent family!
