Within two weeks at the shelter, a dog named Mulan was put on the euthanasia list due to behavior issues. She was so reactive with people and the workers saw it as extreme aggression. She wasn’t fit to be in a home, they all agreed. But Martha, an independent dog rescuer, begged to disagree.
As soon as Martha heard about the dog, she headed to the shelter to meet the dog. Despite all the warnings by the shelter staff, she insisted on seeing Mulan, and she was determined to save the pup. She spent 2.5 hours trying to gain Mulan’s trust and she succeeded.
Mulan let her guard down and took her chances with her rescuer. She willingly walked out of the shelter and jumped right into the car. She was nervous and had absolutely zero clue what was about to happen, but she was curious to be outdoors.
Once home, Martha gave Mulan some space and left the dog inside a room. She wanted the pup to decompress and feel the vibe in the house on its own. But when she came back moments later to check on it, she was surprised to see what the dog did while she was gone.
Mulan destroyed her bed and the stuffing inside it was all over the floor. She caused a huge mess and she was sure she would get into trouble. She was guilty and she looked completely terrified.
Instead of busting the dog, Martha ignored the mess and focused her attention on Mulan. She avoided eye contact so the dog won’t feel threatened. She assured the pup she wasn’t mad despite what happened.
After realizing she won’t get punished for what she did, Mulan started to loosen up. She initiated playing with her foster dog siblings and decided to take her chance with Martha. Before long, she ended up liking her foster mom so much.
Mulan is ready for a fresh start. In no time, she will be traveling to Canada to meet her new family. While she waits for the paperwork to finalize, she will spend her time soaking in all the love and attention Martha can give her.
