Bill Farmer’s voice is recognizable whether you’ve heard of him. Over the last 30 years, he’s been behind Pluto’s bark and Goofy’s clumsy speech. He is also the voice of a slew of other Disney characters.
Farmer is now working in front of the camera. He wants to help some of America’s extraordinary real-life canines gain recognition.
It’s A Dog Life is currently on Disney Plus, showing incredible working dogs nationwide. Farmer features two dogs with heroic and odd professions in the ten episodes.
According to Farmer in a Fox 5 interview, there are so many jobs dogs can and do for us. It blew his mind upon knowing this.
Goofy and Pluto, Farmer’s animated friends, each have their portions. In “Pluto’s Pointers,” Pluto appears to instruct children about correct canine behavior; in “Goofy’s Hometown Heroes,” Goofy honors ordinary creatures achieving exceptional feats.
It’s A Dog’s Life wants to teach children about the life of canines. Owners of all ages will also enjoy learning about how dogs across the country work.
Beekeeping canines, for example, detect dangerous viruses that might wipe out a colony. These canines strive to preserve the Earth, as pollinators are becoming extinct.
Other dogs, such as rescue mutt Eba, can detect floating heaps of whale poop in the Pacific Ocean. She assists the work of University of Washington researchers. They aim to know why the Southern Resident killer whale population is dropping.
But it’s not all doom and gloom in the series. There’s a lot of heartwarming cuteness, for example, the Cincinnati Zoo’s pooches. These rescue dogs look after baby cheetahs when they are puppies. They give critical socialization to the cubs as they grow.
The animals create a sibling-like bond, which Farmer describes to people as they come to adore each other.
Farmer believes the show will inspire a new generation of dog enthusiasts to value and care for dogs, particularly those in need.
He claims that roughly 90% of the dogs shown on the program are rescue dogs.
Last Monday, Disney Plus premiered the first episode. A new one will be available every Friday for the next nine weeks.
