On their flight back to Massachusetts from Florida, a couple noticed that one of their three dogs was acting unusually. Their pets are familiar with airplanes and have flown several times before. They are well-trained, obedient animals that know how to behave decently in public.
The dog that was not acting like usual is a French Bulldog named Darcy, who is three years old. She was confined to a small travel carrier and was silent at the start of the voyage. In the midst of the flight, though, she began to fidget and whimper. She continued to press her head against the netting portion of the bag.
Her father advised her to calm down, but she disregarded him. This was really uncommon for their pets. The puppy’s mother became concerned, so she opened the carrier so the dog might peek her head out; perhaps it was too hot inside.
The dog owner then observed that her dog’s tongue was blue, which she recognized as a sign of low blood oxygen levels. Darcy panicked as she gasped desperately for air. The dog’s mother took her outside and sat her on her lap to help her unwind.
One flight attendant noticed that the sick dog was not in her kennel and went to inform the dog’s owner that this was not permitted during the flight. When he heard what was happening, however, he immediately contacted his colleague, and they immediately took action.
One of them carried along a small oxygen tank and mask. They positioned it on the dog’s muzzle. The puppy’s mom retained the mask until it began to wriggle and continued to attempt to escape. Within a few minutes, Darcy’s condition had already improved.
Numerous passengers witnessed the incident, and they were relieved to learn that the dog was unharmed. They, particularly the dog owners, acknowledged the flight attendants’ assistance.
