Thanks to the U.S. Coast Guard, a dog’s terrifying ordeal in North Carolina’s Pamlico Sound came to a joyful conclusion on one weekend.
It was a normal Saturday afternoon, and the Coast Guard crew aboard the shallow-water vessel CG24508 learned that a couple’s dog had been lost in the waters of Pamlico Sound. Pamlico Sound is a lagoon that is approximately 100 miles long and up to 25 miles wide. Looking for a dog in an area that big made it quite a tough endeavor.
Myla, the lost dog that is actually a German shorthaired pointer, paddled up to the ship’s starboard side shortly after the crew of CG24508 detected activity in the water. This meant that the crew did not have to really look for it as it already found its way to them.
One Coast Guardsman grabbed the wide-eyed dog by the collar, and he and another crew member dragged the wet dog onto the ship. The dog was now in safe hands and they no longer had to worry that the dog may drown.
The Facebook post by U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet said that the crew did a quick inspection to confirm that the dog had no injuries that needed immediate treatment. The brave crew also provided the very tired dog with VIP treatment and eventually reunited it with its owners once they reached the shore.
We all are really proud of Myla for doing her best to survive and we would like to give our thanks to the rescue crew who helped the dog.
Water safety is just as vital for your pet as it is for you, so be sure to bring along life jackets.
It really was a good thing that the Coast Guard located Myla before she became too exhausted, and everyone returned home safe and sound!
