Seven months ago, officials from Lexington-Fayette Animal Control in Kentucky received a call about a dog in desperate need of help. They discovered that the pup had taken refuge inside a tipped-over garbage can. The dog had made it his home, as he thought nobody was interested in taking him in.
When the animal control officer arrived, the dog would come up to say hello but quickly retreat into the garbage can. This was unusual, as most street dogs run back to their homes when scared. However, this cutie was content to stay inside the garbage can, which made him feel safe and warm.
Although the rescuers knew he was a treasure, the dog had formed a positive association with trash. The rescuers eventually convinced the dog, whom they named Oscar, to leave the garbage can and embark on a new and better life. However, even after Oscar was safe and sound with them, he showed strange interest in trash.
According to the rescuers, Oscar still guarded and climbed into garbage containers around the office. Oscar’s name came from his love of rubbish but was not a grouch. His rescuers even arranged for him to meet local sanitation workers, which he enjoyed.
Oscar’s most significant need is to find a loving forever home with the right people. The Lexington Humane Society has taken him in and is helping him find a family. According to the Humane Society, they can promise Oscar he’ll never have to live in a garbage container again. Whether he was looking for shelter from abuse or bad weather, or if somebody abandoned him like he was worthless trash, that part of his unfortunate story is behind him.
Oscar is a loving boy who is determined to make new friends and loves attention. The Lexington Humane Society knows that someone will soon adopt him and give him the love and care he deserves.
