Sit, roll over, bark, and play dead – these are just some of the usual commands we teach our dogs. Although it is somewhat common, seeing a dog that knows how to obey commands still amazes us.
Now imagine being able to see a dog that can “talk” to its owner, I bet you will have your mind blown. Prepare to be amazed at Bunny.
Bunny seems like a funny name for a dog, doesn’t it? Nonetheless, it is cute. Bunny is a Sheepadoodle and she can talk to her owners through a soundboard that has 45 different English phrases.
She was caught on camera trying to say “I love you, Mom” on the soundboard. Bunny was adopted by her owner whose name is Alexis Devine in 2019. Right after being adopted, Alexis let Bunny learn a specially-made communication pad.
After knowing Christina Hunger, a speech-language pathologist who is known as one of the people who first used soundboards with a canine, Alexis was inspired and decided to build her very own soundboard for Bunny. Alexis and Bunny used that soundboard for months until they met a cognitive scientist who calls himself Leo Trottier.
He was in search of beta testers of a new device which happens to be what Bunny was using. The word “outside” was Bunny’s first-ever learned-word on the soundboard. Not long after, she learned how to ask for specific destinations on the soundboard.
She even knows how to talk to Spooky, the family’s cat. She asks for playtime with the cat by pressing buttons that translate to “Play, Spooky.” Alexis described having the soundboard as a “positive experience.”
It helps them make their bond stronger. Learning tricks and new words have given them so much joy and enjoyment. Bunny has learned 45 words, she is still perfecting 5 words on the list but seeing how dedicated Bunny is and the fun that she’s having, she’ll surely learn those words in no time.
Moments Alexis and Bunny spend together on the soundboard are indeed priceless.
