Sadly, not all lost dogs are successfully reunited with their owners. They can be lost forever. So when a woman named Monica Mathis saw a photo of her missing dog on a beer can, she was overjoyed.
Hazel is a terrier mix that belongs to Monica Mathis. One day, Hazel was leashed and left outside the house.
When Monica came back out, she realized that her dog had disappeared. Monica searched for Hazel and did everything she could to locate her, but she was unsuccessful.
At that time, Monica was living in Iowa. She soon had to relocate to Minnesota following her pet’s disappearance. She had accepted that Hazel was gone for good.
Three years have passed since Hazel went missing. And in January 2020, Monica discovered a beer advertising on social media for Florida-based Motorworks Brewing Company. It includes four beer cans in a pack and each can has a photograph of dogs in local shelters. The aim was to solicit bids for these dogs in order to raise finances and encourage adoptions.
In the photo, one dog looked familiar. Monica immediately identified Hazel. She could not contain her excitement at having discovered Hazel. However, it was unclear how Hazel traveled from Iowa to Florida.
Monica quickly informed the Manatee County Animal Shelter that one of the dogs shown in the promotional beer can is hers. Staff at the Manatee County Animal Shelter instructed her to provide evidence that the dog is Hazel. She submitted all photographs that could identify the dog.
The staff approved all the evidence Monica submitted.
Monica was overjoyed to be reunited with Hazel. They are scheduled to reconcile for Hazel’s seventh birthday party. Friends of Manatee County Animal Shelter paid for Hazel’s trip from Florida to Minnesota.
After three long years, Monica cannot wait to reunite with Hazel. She pledged that she will never again lose her.
