Dogs that have never known how it is to have a family are naturally scared of humans. Every day of their existence is about survival, and they have learned how to be cautious. This mindset has made it difficult for rescuers to save them. Every time a human comes near them, they are inclined to run away.
A small pup living in a large field in a California suburb was so terrified of people that she would quickly scurry away at the slightest hint of someone trying to get close to her. She was very fast, and any attempts to rescue her would fail. Until one winter day, a rescuer was lucky enough to get the small pooch.
Set a trap
Before attempting to catch the stray pup, one rescuer tried to obverse her from a distance first. He could see that the mutt had all the advantages. She was staying inside a fenced property, but it was expansive, and the dog could easily evade and outmaneuver him. There was no chance that he could outrun her.
Rather than having to go through all that effort and end up with nothing, he decided to get a trap and come back very early the next day. This way, the dog would not see him set the trap.
He placed the cage near a small gap on the chainlink fence and put some food inside. The rescuer then went back to his vehicle and patiently waited from a distance. After a few hours, the dog came, and the trap did its work.
Foster fail
The rescuer brought the dog back to their facility, where she was cleaned and given a health check. Fortunately, the dog only had minor health problems. They named her Pinky, and she was given to a kind woman who agreed to foster her.
Pinky started to flourish under the woman’s care. She transformed into a highly-affectionate pooch and loved playing games. In time, the foster mom fell in love with the dog and declared that she would permanently keep her.
